keralam meen curry ( Fish curry )

The first time I ate this curry is at my In-laws place just after my marriage. We at my mothers place never used to have fish , as both me and my bro never liked the fish smell. But as most of you know , at In-laws place and tat too just after marriage you cannot say anything(until the awkwardness of being new is over). But truly speaking, I loved it. And that how I became fan of the kappa meen curry - typical Kerala meal.
Kappa is in between potato and sweet potato, it has the sweetness of sweet potato but a little bit only and the hardness of potato. Its much tastier than both of them... But lemme think.... Sweet potato baked and served with lemon and chaat masala is divine. :)

lets forget about potatoes and make our meen(fish) curry...

Ingredients:-
2 tbsp Chilly powder - less heat - kashmiri mirch powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric
1/4 tsp Methi dana powder
Mustard seeds
1 big Onion
Curry leaves
Fish cut into small pieces
1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste

In a small bowl mix together chilly powder, turmeric and methi dana powder with little water to make a paste. Keep it aside for 5 minutes.
Now in a pan , heat oil and put 1 tbsp mustard seeds. Let them crackle. Then add the above paste and let it roast for some time. You can clearly see that the color of the paste gets darker. stir for 2 mintues and then off the heat.
Now in a flat pan, add oil and put curry leaves. Stir for 1/2 minute and then add the chopped onion. Let the onion color little brown and then add the above mixture. stir for 1 minute and then add the ginger garlic paste. Now let it cook for 2 minutes and then add little water and the fish pieces. stir for 1 minute. Now add water till it cover fish by 3/4th.

Cook for 10 minutes. And your perfect meen curry aka fish curry is ready to go with Kappa or steam rice and daal/curd kadi....

Enjoy eating...
